The paper, titled "The Environmental Benefits of Repurposing Tubular Steel from North Sea Oil and Gas Fields" will be presented by Professor Rob Holdway and Mark Dowling of Giraffe Innovation, along with Iain Bell, UK Tubular Sales & Purchasing Manager for John Lawrie Tubulars. The paper fits nicely with the theme of this year’s event which is focused on the energy transition and collaboration in reaching the industry’s collective net zero goals.
Following the production of a life cycle assessment in 2020, John Lawrie Tubulars can now show that for every tonne of steel tubulars it repurposes, there is a CO²e saving of over 97% when compared to the production of new prime steel. This goes a long way to supporting net zero and sustainability goals for both of the industries the company services – oil and gas and construction piling.
Iain Laing, MD John Lawrie Tubulars, commented: “It was fantastic news to hear that our paper proposal had been accepted by the SPE committee. As a business we understand the value of the energy transition and are committed to the role we play in reducing waste and building a circular economy. We’ve been repurposing redundant steel tubulars for the last 30 years and reusing this material as piling in the construction industry keeps existing products in use for longer and therefore helps to protect the Earth’s natural resources.”
Rob, Mark and Iain will be presenting in Session: 06 – Decommissioning on Wednesday 8 September 2021.
