Angela Smith is Accounts Assistant with John Lawrie Tubulars Ltd based in Montrose, Scotland and is an enthusiastic dog lover. She lives with her husband and animals not far from the office, enjoying the great outdoors as much as she can.
“I joined John Lawrie (as it was then) in July 2003, after moving to Scotland from England with my husband and dogs a few months earlier. Not knowing much about the steel tubulars industry, it was a steep learning curve! Prior to joining the company, I had worked as a Firearms Licensing Administrator with Warwickshire Police, so this was an entirely new environment for me but one that has presented me with many opportunities and challenges along the way.
“I was originally employed as an Admin Assistant at the Montrose site, supporting with the day-to-day administration, weighbridge operations and general clerical duties. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to develop my role into much more than just clerical, with me doing the majority of the invoicing and credit control for the company. I take great pride in my work and have a sense of achievement seeing a job through from start to finish.
“Many people would say I am fiercely independent – something I have no doubt inherited from my mother. She was a working wife and mum, bringing up myself and my two brothers, as well as working part-time at the local hospital, and assisting with my dad’s business.

“Outside of work, I have a passion for my four-legged friends, having two dogs of my own, as well as helping out at my local dog training club, where we have seen many dogs and handlers achieve their Kennel Club qualifications. I am also a keen swimmer and have been known to take a dip on the “wild side”, with some wild swimming in the great Scottish lochs and rivers.”
